Lefkas

Lefkas is an area with many beautiful islands, such as Meganisi, Ithaki and Kefalonia. Average daily distance is 10-15 NM. Also suitable for novice sailors.

Lefkas 1 week

Lefkas is a beautiful sailing destination. You are sailing in a fairly sheltered area here, because you are almost everywhere surrounded by islands. So it is certainly sea sailing, but with the feeling that you are on a very large lake. As a result, the waves are never actually very high and the wind is often not too bad.

Are you curious about what a week of flotilla sailing in Lefkas with Portokali could look like? Then read the example route below for a nice impression of the atmosphere. Please note that this is only an example route, purely to give an idea. We never have the routes of our flotillas fixed, so that we can optimally adapt to the wind and the wishes of the group. Every flotilla trip with Portokali is different and it is also perfectly possible to join the same flotilla several times and still discover different places. There is so much beauty… It will never fit all in one week!

Arrival on Lefkada
Once you have landed at Preveza (the airport of this area), it is a twenty-minute taxi ride to the port of Lefkas: Lefkas Marina. This port was completely rebuilt after the earthquake in 2003 and subsequently developed rapidly into an excellent departure port with excellent facilities. In the evening we go out for dinner on the boulevard of Lefkas, which is full of restaurants and cozy bars.

Lefkada – Klein Vathi (11 nautical miles)
Little Vathi is located on the island of Meganisi. Because there is also a Vathi on Ithaka, this Vathi is usually called Small Vathi. The short sailing distance makes this a perfect day to discover one of the many bays we encounter along the way. Just relax at anchor and relax after yesterday’s travel day. Stray cats in Greece are a phenomenon, but Klein Vathi knows how to take this to an even higher level. If you like cats, this place is fantastic anyway.

Flotilla itinerary Lefkas 1 week (continued)

Klein Vathi – Vasiliki (14 nautical miles) The next morning, after the briefing, we raise our anchor right away to have breakfast in a nearby bay.
In the morning there is usually little wind here so we make good use of it by getting up quietly and swimming and relaxing extensively.
By noon we leave the bay to continue sailing some 12 nautical miles towards Vasiliki.
In Vasiliki, unlike the rest of Greece, there are other water sports.
For example, you can rent surfboards and open catamarans here.
A nice change! Vasiliki – Kefallinia (20 nautical miles) Today we sail further south towards Kefallinia – better known as Kefalonia.
This crossing is 20 miles, so a nice day of sailing.
In the port of Eufimia we dock.
This port is very convenient to replenish all supplies on board.
For example, this is a great place to refill the water tank, withdraw money and stop by the butcher, bakery and supermarket.
You may recognize the port, as the movie “Captain Corelli’s mandolin” was shot here.

Kefallinia – Ithaca (22 nautical miles) On Wednesday the longest trip is scheduled: 22 nautical miles of sailing to Ithaca.
The port village of Kioni is very beautiful and there is a lot happening in port with sailing yachts coming and going.
Because we sailed a long day, it is best to postpone the visit to Kioni until the next morning.
First we have a well-deserved drink in the cockpit and reminisce about a long and beautiful day of sailing. Ithaka – Sivota (11 nautical miles) The next morning there is plenty of time to visit Kioni and Ithaka.
The briefing is just in the morning, but since the trip to Sivota is only 11 nautical miles, we don’t have to leave early. Don’t feel like staying ashore any longer? Then of course you can leave port early and anchor in a nice bay. After all, there are more than enough of them. In the early afternoon we sail on to Sivota. This is located in a cozy and safe bay. On the other side of the bay there is also a beautiful beach which certainly invites for a swim. In the evening we choose one of the Greek tavernas for dinner.

Sivota – Lefkas (16 nautical miles) The last sailing day we have 16 miles ahead of us.
If you want to make it a longer sailing day, you can also round the island of Lefkas via the west side instead of the east side.
It is then another 22 nautical miles or so.
Once back in Lefkas, we take a few fun group photos and then enjoy Greek cuisine with the whole group one last time.
What a wonderful week this was!
On to the next sailing vacation….
