Off the coast of northern Dalmatia lies the Kornati National Park. This area stretches roughly from Zadar in the north to Sibenik in the south. This archipelago, consisting of 89 small and large islands, are all uninhabited. During the summer months, a handful of people do live there to keep the hotels and restaurants open so that a delicious dinner can always be enjoyed.
The “Kornatis” are known as an area with lots of reefs, rocks, caves and the little vegetation giving it a very rugged look. Around the islands swim many species of fish that can already be seen from your boat due to the crystal-clear water. But you can admire the underwater world even better during a snorkelling trip of course! Due to the many different islands, the distances don’t have to be very long either, but for fanatics, long distances are definitely an option. Therefore, there are also numerous options to stop along the way in bays or find a nice sheltered spot for lunch. The sailing conditions in the Kornati are also beautiful, where in the afternoon there is always a lovely running wind from the north-west that can increase to 4-5 bft, in the evening it will calm down and it is great to relax in one of the beautiful bays. Perfect conditions and something for everyone, from experienced sailors to beginners, this area has it all. Because of its compactness, you do not feel like you are on the open sea all the time and there is always land in sight. There are a few (ACI) Marinas where you can stay overnight but these are quite pricey and you will soon pay €90 for an overnight stay. It is therefore advisable to plan your route well. You will also regularly come across mooring buoys in bays; in Croatia, it is quite common for these to be laid by the restaurants themselves and to charge a fee for them. Unless you eat at that particular restaurant, of course.
