Aegina - Samos (one-way)
Unique one-way from Aegina to Samos, across the Cyclades. Average daily distance 30-40NM. Suitable for sailors of any level (who especially love the sailing part!).
If you want to sail from Athens to Kos in a week, straight through the Cyclades, then this is a possible route! Please note, in 2024 we will sail the route Aegina – Samos instead. A different start and end place, but through the same area: the beautiful Cyclades!
Are you curious about what a flotilla sailing holiday with Portokali could look like? Then read the example route below for a nice impression of the atmosphere. Please note that this is only an example route, purely to give an idea. Also note that this example route assumes a departure from Athens and we will depart from Aegina next year. We never have the routes of our flotillas fixed, so that we can optimally adapt to the wind and the wishes of the group. Every flotilla trip with Portokali is different and it is also perfectly possible to join the same flotilla several times and still discover different places. After all, there is so much beauty… You can never see it all in one go!
Athens – Loutra 55 nautical miles
We start the week with a nice long distance so that we are in the middle of the Cyclades on the first day. Loutra is an authentic, idyllic village known for its natural hot spring. The residents have demarcated this water stream that ends on the beach with large stones, creating a kind of natural hot tub. There is no better place to end the day with a nice anchor beer after such a long trip.
Loutra – Naoussa 40 nautical miles
Today a typical Cyclades town: Naoussa on the island of Paros. This town consists of countless white alleys with cute shops, nice bars and good restaurants. You will undoubtedly get lost because every street looks the same and it is in fact one big maze, but that only takes you to even more beautiful places. Once you have found your way back from the village, there is a beautiful beach right next to the harbor for a refreshing dip.
Naoussa – Schinoussa 25 nautical miles
After a somewhat busier spot, we are now looking for peace and quiet again. Schinoussa is one of ‘the little Cyclades’. The group of islands that lie below Naxos. All quite empty, little tourism and with beautiful bays with the clearest water. We moor at a quay that can only accommodate a handful of boats and where there are only two tavernas. That’s it. To get some groceries, we walk up the mountain to the village there and enjoy the beautiful picture below us along the way: the azure bay with our yacht in it.

Schinoussa – Amorgos 19 nautical miles Leaving on time today because we want to arrive on Amorgos a little early.
After all, this island is a wonderful place to ride around on a scooter.
A must-see is the monastery located at the back of the island.
The snow-white structure from the year 1017 looks like it is stuck against the steep rock face.
Very spectacular.
The road to it is also breathtakingly beautiful.
Winding roads along steep mountain slopes and deserted ruins.
In the evening we eat at a taverna right behind our yachts.
Amorgos – Levitha 35 nautical miles Levitha is for many people one of the most special islands of the Cyclades.
For here you really have the idea that time has stood still for a few hundred years.
There is no mobile coverage and only one family lives here with a few goats.
There is also no harbor, only a large bay with mooring buoys.
When there are boats, the family turns their backyard into a small restaurant where they serve three dishes they make with the help of the goats and a supply boat that comes by once a week.
Here you can stargaze at night like no other island….
Levitha – Kos 43 nautical miles Time to return to civilization.
A lovely stretch of sailing with plenty/half wind.
Halfway through we get mobile phone coverage again, but no one was really waiting for that.
It was nice this way, this peace and quiet.
Still, it is nice to send some enviable pictures to friends and family back home.
Having arrived in Kos, we look back on a week of beautiful, long-distance sailing, but also of beautiful islands which we enjoyed to the full.
Too bad it’s already over….
